Danielle Maltby is sharing her perspective on her recent breakup from Michael Allio.
Days after Michael confirmed on Jason Tartick's Trading Secrets podcast that he and his Bachelor in Paradise costar, who started dating after meeting on season eight of the reality show last summer, were no longer together, his ex is sharing insight into what led to the split.
"I've been getting many notifications regarding Jason's podcast," Danielle wrote on her Instagram Stories Sept. 22 after thanking fans of their kind words, "and while I was shocked to find out my breakup would be announced in this fashion, I feel have to address it now."
"This breakup was not a mutual decision arriving at some perception of incompatibilities," she continued, before expressing support for her former boyfriend and his young son. "However, I do hope the best for Michael and I will always have James in my heart as we move forward separately."
In a follow up Story, Danielle went on to acknowledge fans of the former couple who watched them bond over their experiences with loss and grief on the ABC dating show. (Danielle's late fiancé died of an apparent drug overdose in 2011 while Michael lost his wife Laura to cancer in 2019.)
"I know so many people were rooting for Michael and I, and I appreciate your support so much," the 37-year-old said. "I don't regret the love I gave for a second."
Danielle, who had moved to Ohio from Nashville earlier this year to be near Michael and his 7-year-old son, added, "While these last couple months have been extremely difficult and painful for me, I am succeeding in finding moments of joy in building a new life in this city regardless of how I came to it."
And despite the two being together for the past year, these days the nurse is focused on herself and her career.
"I have been extremely invested in my job," she admitted, "which I love and I feel hopeful again to discover what the future holds for me."
But the reality star is not looking to dive deeper into her split from Michael, citing James—whom Michael shared with his late wife Laura—as one of the reasons. As she put it, "Out of respect for the time we shared, love I have and honoring the fact there is a child involved, I won't be addressing this further."
She concluded her note by reflecting on what she had hoped for her future with the entrepreneur.
"I would really appreciate the respect, time and space to continue to heal and grieve what I believed was forever and hope you can extend the same to Michael," Danielle added. "I truly thank you all for the kindness and support you have shown me along the way."
Michael first broke the news of the pair's breakup on the Sept. 18 episode of Jason's podcast, explaining, "It's still incredibly fresh. I guess I'll just come out with it: We're not together anymore."
But, he noted, they had given it their all.
"It's not what we planned," he added. "We both threw a lot into this relationship, and it's really awful when it doesn't work out. Again, like what we were talking about before, you make your plan, you see your future, you start working towards it. And then when things don't work out—when you realize that love is there, but you're not necessarily compatible—you mourn the loss not of just that person and that friend in your life but also the future you had envisioned."
